The Lasallian Student and Filipino Citizen
“A passive and ignorant citizenry will never create a sustainable world.” (Andrew Gaines) This country needs us. We may have our own different lives, careers and paths, but we have one nation that’s waiting for us. No matter what direction we take after college, we will still be facing the same old issues of the same old country that we have been seeing since we were born, unless we do something about it. Truly, many would ask “how?”. True enough also, it’s simple. It starts with awareness, and it ends in action. And definitely, we are more than capable of doing that.
As mentioned a lot of times, it is a fact that Lasallians are stereotyped as those who easily get into jobs after graduation. Although as we all know, not everyone agrees. A personal point of view of mine would be that we, as Lasallians, don’t instantly have the success of life. Rather, we as Lasallians have the opportunity. If this is so, why not take that opportunity, and use it to make change in this society? It’s simple enough to find a reason to do this. We are Lasallians. We are Filipinos. And this is our society to change.
Honestly, I believe that if every citizen of this country has the same kind and the same quality of education that we are blessed to have, then maybe, just maybe, our country would not be where it is right now. It would be a progressive nation fuelled by its people’s passion. This is yet another reason of why we should be proud of our alma mater. It’s because of the plans that they have for making the Lasallian education more accessible to Filipinos. Confidently, I can say that this institution realizes its students’ roles outside the university and within the society. With that, I can also say “Proudly, I am a Lasallian!”.
